New Zealand Government Funding

Last week everyone was moaning because hospitals are kicking people off waiting lists due to lack of funds/resources. This week everyone's moaning because prisoners are sitting in bed instead of being rehabilitated, again due to lack of funds.

I have two comments:

(1) A poll on stuff.co.nz this morning indicates that most people don't want the Government to spend more money rehabilitating prisoners.

(2) Last election we all made it very clear that we care more about getting tax cuts in our own pockets than reducing hospital waiting lists.

The Government is doing what we want. Sure we would like to see waiting lists reduced but we don't want to pay for it. We've made this abundantly clear and we cannot expect the Government to act any differently.

If we want things to change, we have to make it happen. If you care at all, before the next election write to your local MP and tell them you would prefer to invest the Government's surplus in sorting out the health system than getting an extra few bucks back in tax cuts.

If you don't do this then don't complain about waiting lists.
